Etching is a surface treatment technique, where the surface is treated with a reactive solution. The chemical reaction partially dissolves the surface. This gives the product a matt deepening, resulting in a 3D effect. Etched stainless steel type plates are often used in pump construction and the food and beverage industry, because the material has a long life expectancy and is very durable. Aluminium etched labels are often used as luxury publicity material. Etching often is a good alternative for engraving, as it offers the possibility for serial production.
The advantages of this technique are:
- A tangible lay-out
- An extremely durable lay-out
- Matt-gloss etching gives the product a very luxurious look
- Very suitable for industrial nameplates with punch zones
Developments:
- The environment is an important issue when looking at further development of this technique.
